Living History with Dr. Darwin Payne | 2023
The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza presented an interview with Dr. Darwin Payne, professor emeritus of communications at Southern Methodist University. As a reporter at the Dallas Times Herald in 1963, Payne interviewed Abraham Zapruder shortly after the assassination and covered the events of that weekend, visiting the Texas School Book Depository and Oswald's rooming house in Oak Cliff. Payne is the author of several books about Dallas history, including Behind the Scenes: Covering the JFK Assassination (2023). The program, moderated by Curator Stephen Fagin, took place at the Museum on November 17, 2023. This is a compilation of oral histories featuring individuals on staff at Parkland Memorial Hospital the weekend of the assassination in 1963. President Kennedy was rushed to the facility on November 22, where he was later pronounced dead. Oswald too, received emergency treatment for a gunshot wound he would die from. Incidentally, it was the same hospital where Jack Ruby, the man who shot and ...

    Just saw this. Near the end a question asks, now that he's proven four shots were fired on the Dictabelt recording, how have the National Academy scientists responded? First, Tink has NOT proven the Dictabelt evidence is valid. He doesn't understand it, and relies on Barger and Don Thomas to make the case for him, choosing to believe what they say. And they are deeply wrong. Second, one should not expect the National Academy scientists to respond to every conspiracy book that talks about the acoustics. They responded to Don Thomas when he published a peer reviewed article in a journal. They might not even do that if it happened again. This isn't the focus of their careers. They are aware of Tink's book, and they know how silly it is. Lastly, Tink uses the argument that none of the National Academy scientists were specialists in acoustics, while Barger was. Note when this argument is made, it is never followed up with whatever they got wrong due to not being acousticians. The fact is, the science behind understanding acoustics is basic physics, with which every one of them was familiar, and it was Barger's limitations that caused him to make basic errors. Because Barger was an applied scientist that built technology, and wasn't prepared for the theoretical analysis of supposed gunshots on the Dictabelt in the case where he didn't know if they even existed, let alone their sources or where they were recorded.

    @patricklavelle4615 All you're saying is that some shyster lawyer toting a bag of tricks (eg. Johnny Cochran) could take an _inflagrante delicto_ client and possibly transform him into a pious innocent; which you're doing right here in quibbling, kvetching, carping and fussing over the solid evidence incriminating Oswald, while never providing comparable evidence incriminating anyone else. We've heard all those anyone-but-Oswald talking points before. They've been well covered and debunked many times over. It's not necessary to re-debunk them here again, for your education. But, the last one must be noted for the way Oswald apologists tend to twist things to get their boy off. Mrs. Robert A. Reid (not “Doloris Reed"), a TSBD clerical supervisor, said she recalled giving Oswald change for the soda machine; but not necessarily at the time of the shooting. CT"s only interpolated that. It was evidently on some other day/time, for Mrs. Reid did testify she was standing outside the TSBD when the shots were fired, not dispensing change (to the shooter).

    Totally agree with Gonzo and said it in my comment earlier before I got to the end of the video - a team's first game in a big tournament is always a bit funny, u get unusual results, upsets and quite often bore-draws... Eng Vs Switzerland 1- 1 in 96 being one - 4 of the last 10 opening euros games were draws (all 1 - 1, I think)... Also Germany only won 1 of their 4 games at Euro 2020, losing 2..! That shows as was also said in the video, this Germany isn't the same as a few years back, they aren't so intimidating, the fear factor is gone as they say... They've mirrored Man Utd over the last few years actually, they have prestige and history but no longer substance - on their day they can be great but equally they can be boring, uncreative and grind out results and they can be awful, turgid and deservedly get beaten... Tbh any result would not really be a surprise, an undeserved Germany win, a deserved Germany win, a bore-draw, an exciting score draw, a dominant Scotland victory, a lucky victory for the Scots - only a big scoring victory for either side would be a surprise to me... Good luck again 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿⚒️

    What is so annoying about this presentation is that they start with the conclusion and then try to look for ways in which to get there. They never look at alternatives at all. Is it impossible someone else was firing also? They try to say a tree deflected a shot or the metal post on the traffic signal deflected a shot. But, not the possibility that a shot was actually deflected enough to the point where the bullet would lose enough velocity so that it didnt exit JFK. They did experients to see how cartridges were ejected but what good is that if there is testimoy that Capt Fritz picked up the shells and threw them on the floor?

    • @9Ballr

      @9Ballr Apart from half a dozen witnesses that said they saw smoke coming from the knoll area. The 50 or 60 or so witnesses that said a shot or shots came from the knoll area. Or the vast multitude of witnesses that said 2 shots came on top of each other. Hard to know in terms of physical evidence. The ARRB got an envelope that had..."7.65 she'll found in Dealey Plaza, destroyed by FBI as deemed of no value" written on it. We also have Dr Shaw who operated on Connollys chest wounds say in a press conference that the bullet is still in Connollys thigh. How can it still be in his thigh if it was supposedly the bullet found on a stretcher 2 hours earlier? 2 FBI agents signed a receipt for a missile removed from JFK by Humes at the autopsy. On 29th Nov 63 Hoover rings LBJ and tells him there were 3 shots and we have them. 2 bullets splintered but our experts matched them to the rifle and the other was an intact bullet This suggests there are more than just 3 bullets which would mean there was more than shooter.

    • @9Ballr
      @9Ballr 9 днів тому

      @@geoffreyjohnstone5465 All of the bullets and fragments were matched to Oswald's rifle. No other shooter, no other weapon, and no other bullets or fragments were ever found. 96% of witnesses said that the shots came from only one direction. Some people thought that two shots came close to one another because of the echo effects of Dealey Plaza. Dr. Shaw's comments came while Connally was still in surgery, so he didn't know how serious the thigh wound was or whether there was a bullet still in Connally's thigh. No bullet was recovered from his thigh. When an event like this happens there are always conflicting eyewitness statements, and mistaken statements--especially early on--by officials and authorities. You have to weigh those statements against the totality of the evidence to see if they have any veracity in hindsight. A good example is the claim that the rifle found was a Mauser. That was simply a mistake, and was corrected by everyone but Roger Craig, IIRC, but some people just take it at face value and run with it despite the overwhelming evidence that it was wrong.

    • @geoffreyjohnstone5465
      @geoffreyjohnstone5465 8 днів тому

      @@9Ballr I am not so sure that ALL the bullets and fragments were even placed in to evidence. You would also have to prove ALL the bullets and fragments could be matched to the 7.65 Mauser that was sworn in to evidence by Seymour Weitzman by affidavit on 23 Nov 63. ALL the bullets and fragments would need to have full chains of custody. This means everyone with in that chain must be able to identify those bullets and fragments and the chain can not be broken. Looking at COC of CE399 ("the magic bullet") the first 4 on its chain of custody failed to idfentify it and it is in 2 places at the same time for a full 80 minutes. Good luck with that one. Dr Shaws comments came at approx 4pm after he himself had worked on Connollys chest wounds. CE399 was found before 2pm. He is asked by a reporter about this bullet and he states clearly, the bullet is still in the thigh and it eill be removed shortly. In Connollys autobiography it states a bullet fell of his stretcher and was picked up by a nurse. DA Henry Wade is on record as stating a nurse approached him and said she had a bullet and what should she do with it. He advised her to give it to a policeman. Patrolman Bobby Nolan stated he was given an envelope from a nurse which she said contained a bullet. He handed this in at the Dallas PD. A very different chain of custody to CE399. By your logic, we can rely on nothing or any witnesses. No autopsy photos would exist because the camera that supposedly took them is now missing. JFK had no brain as that has gone missing. Even the microfilm from which the supposed receipt for the rifle purchase came from is missing. Does that mean they never existed? You have to remember, in a court everything must be correct and above board. The Dallas police, especially under Wade's DAship were masters of the fix when it came to trials. Some of which became famous. Besides, any trial, anywhere would be a mistrial....the prosecution were and still are withholding evidence.

    • @geoffreyjohnstone5465
      @geoffreyjohnstone5465 8 днів тому

      @@9Ballr Witnesses were pretty much split as to where the shots came from. What if the 96% of witnesses were correct in the sense that shots came from the places they said? Yes very few said the shots came from 2 areas, but is not most likely that the shots came from 2 areas rather than just the 50+ that said shots only came from the TSBD are right, and the 50+ witnesses that said shots only came from the underpass area are wrong? Add in the fact that several witnesses said they saw smoke in that area and others said they smelled smoke in thay area and it suggests a shot did come from that area. I wasnt there, I dont know what happened so I have to go by whats available in terms of evidence and testimony. Witnesses are not binary. You cant blanket say everyone that said something that suggests it was Oswald alone are correct, and everyone that suggests more than one shooter are wrong. I find it strange that you want to believe witnesses that changed their story and yet dont believe Roger Craig who maintained the same story. Jurors dont like that. Finally, let me give you a scenario. If you give me an apple today and tomorrow you ask for the apple back. I hold out an orange and say thats what you gave me, what can you do about it? The evidence would be the orange You wouldnt be able to identify the item you gave me if I have an orange. I am sure you understand why we go through the whole legal process. I have reasonable doubt, that is different from saying Oswald is innocent
